The Dog in the Car

One of the funniest listing appointments I've ever gotten started because of my dog.

I was out showing property one day, and when we came out of the house, a couple approached me and asked if I could take a few minutes to talk with them when we were done showing.

I told my clients, "I'll be right back. Let me go talk to these folks for a minute."

When I walked over, they said, "Oh no, just whenever you're done."

I explained that we actually had another showing after that one, so I was just going to chat with them for a minute before we left.

Come to find out, they were from New York and owned the house next door. They were looking for a Realtor.

The wife started giggling and said, "I told him there was no way you were the Realtor because there was a dog in the car."

I couldn't help but laugh.

I told her, "Well, it's Alabama. We just do things the way we want to around here."

Her husband laughed and said, "I told her that was probably your protection. We're in the South, it's a more rural area."

I said, "Listen, I don't know that this dog would protect me. He'd probably lick somebody to death and love all over them. He's the most social dog you'll ever meet."

We stood there talking for a few minutes, and before it was over, we had scheduled a listing appointment for the very next day.

To this day, I still tease the wife about me bringing my dog to her house. She doesn't even like dogs, but she thought the whole thing was hilarious.

It's funny how real estate works sometimes. You never know where a conversation is going to lead or who you're going to meet. Sometimes a simple conversation with neighbors turns into a listing, and sometimes a dog in the car becomes the reason people remember you.
